Spaying Neutering Chihuahuas

What is Neutering? There is a procedure to remove the testicles when the male Chihuahua are neutered. In this procedure, the inside of the sac will be removed but the sac holds the testicles will remain there. So there will not be much difference before and after the removal of testicles. With the passage of time, the swelling decreases. For the comfort of dog, anesthetics will be given to the dog and the operated area will be stitched.

 

What is Spaying? Spaying is same as the hysterectomy in woman. This procedure is done to avoid any possibility
of getting pregnant. In this surgery, uterus and ovaries are removed. Some veterinarians used to remove ovaries only but it is not appropriate because the only ovary removal may cause cancer. So it is recommended to removing both uterus and ovaries to avoid cancer. In this surgery, there is a little cut will be made in the abdomen and the whole procedure take 20 to 40 minutes.

 

What is recommended age of Spaying in Chihuahua? There are many veterinarians which suggest to spaying before the first heat. The advantages to spay the Chihuahua in early age is that it minimizes the risk of mammary tumor. Many studies revealed that if spaying is done after second cycle of heat then it may enhance the tumor risks.
Chihuahua is capable to enter in the puberty time of the ages of 4 to 7 months.

 

What is the recommended age of Neutering in Chihuahua? Between the age of 8 weeks and 6 months, Chihuahua can be neutered in a very ideal manner because it is the best time to neuter the puppy. According to some studies, it causes joint pain in Chihuahua. So try to neuter the puppy between the duration of 2 months to 6 months.
